Sandrine Veysset's Will It Snow For Christmas Getting A BFI Release

Sandrine Veysset’s remarkable debut film won a César and has been compared to the work of Maurice Pialat (À nos amours) and Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake). Exquisitely shot by cinematographer Hélène Louvart (The Beaches of Agnès), the film evokes the harsh realities of daily farming life as well as the magic and innocence of childhood without ever becoming over-sentimental.

Now restored and scanned to 4K, Will it Snow for Christmas? will be released on DVD and Blu-ray for the first time in the UK by the BFI on 20 November. Special features include cast and crew interviews.

On a Provençal farm, a protective and devoted mother (Dominique Reymond) raises her seven illegitimate children. Their father is the farm’s owner (Daniel Duval), an authoritarian egotist who treats the family as his personal property to be used as cheap labour. Unable to leave, it is only the mother’s love for her children and unwavering strength that prevent the family from falling apart.

Will it Snow for Christmas? is released as part of Woman with a Movie Camera, the BFI’s ongoing celebration of women’s contribution to film that has a regular screening slot at BFI Southbank and a range of films on BFI Player.
